The Renaissance Fair

On our way to the Garden of the Gods, we hit traffic. Big time. The highway was stopped and we were so confused. And then we saw a sign for the Renaissance Festival. We had a good laugh about all the hippies that were there and how dorky everyone in that line must be.

And yet, a couple days later we found ourselves buying tickets for it.

You see, Alex has a history of being highly involved with medieval stuff.
Alex is in the red shirt (and tights) 'fighting' his younger brother.
Before I knew Alex, he joined a 'club' that put you through all the training someone would go through to become an actual knight. It was led by a guy who was a knight. You had to train in all of the weaponry of that era. Alex got up to a squire before he left for college. He has an official card to prove it.

So, we went to the Renaissance Fair for Alex. He was pretty excited.
This is what greeted us. The jester and the unicorn (yes, unicorn) are missing.
"Get your beer sponge!"
There were a TON of people there, and about half of them were dressed up in costume. Some, treated it as halloween, just an excuse to dress up (or down) in whatever they had.

We saw this guy right when we walked in, yelling "Get your beer sponge! Free mustard with purchase of a pretzel!" Alex took a picture of him, to which he replied, "That's right. Take my picture but don't eat a pretzel. At least prove to the lady that you're a cheap date and have her buy you a pretzel."

We had a good chuckle.

We walked around a bit until we saw that a crowd was forming around a stage so we sat around and watched a Celtic music performance. They were pretty funny. All of them wore kilts and made ridiculous jokes about it, too.

The German Rapp Brothers- all about bad German accents and potty humor.
It's not a Renaissance Festival without a flame spitter and jester to encourage.
or sword swallower.
We finished off the day at the tournament area. There were three 'knights' competing. It was all staged and badly acted. But it was still pretty cool. They actually did joust which was neat to see.

Our chant was "Cheat to win!"
This is "Sir William, Champion of all England".
We booed him.
By far, the favored knight of the crowd, mostly because he cheated.
So, the fair was pretty cheesy, lots of potty humor, but fun. Alex said it would be even better if we actually dressed up. We'll see......
